David Braben has slammed British gaming degrees, claiming that developers are finding it increasingly hard to find UK graduates looking to enter the industry.
“95% of video gaming degrees are simply not fit for purpose,” Braben told the BBC. “Without some sort of common standard, like Skillset accreditation, these degrees are a waste of time for all concerned.”
Braben’s comments are highlighted in an article claiming that a number of industry jobs are moving from Britain to Canada, which has recently overtaken the UK as the third leading country for games development.

Ahead of this weekend’s Call of Duty: World at War reveal via Xbox Live Marketplace, comes a tasty little rumour hinting that the COD4 developer’s next game will be a bit on the science fiction side.
Take it with a pinch of salt for the time being, but an insider from Infinity Ward is reported to have said, “We are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3.”

Anthony Puzo, son of Godfather creator Mario Puzo, has taken Paramount to court for allegedly not paying revenues on the Godfather videogame.
Puzo is claiming for $1 million in damages, after he agreed with his father in 1992 to pay up a share of revenues from any sold or rented audio-visual productions containing Godfather elements.
“In material breach of the audio-visual products agreement, Paramount has failed and refused to pay the Puzo Estate the sums due it in respect of the Godfather game,” says Puzo in the court filing, according to Reuters.

To go along with the new animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie coming out this summer, LucasArts has created two new Clone Wars games that have nothing to do with the crappy last-gen Clone Wars games.
Lightsaber Duels for the Wii and Jedi Alliance on the DS promise all kinds of motion control function and Alliance even has drop-in, drop-out co-op. Details are a bit scarce at the moment, but we’ve got the first two screens below and some info from our buddies at CVG.

Nintendo’s director of public relations Marc Franklin has said that core gamers should expect great things from the company at E3.
“We will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3,” he told GamePro recently.
Speculation has run rampant about Nintendo’s release schedule near the end of this year. We’re crossing our fingers for more Pilotwings, Starfox or Pikmin action.
Whilst the first half of 2008 was full of goodness in the form of Mario Kart and Smash Bros, the post-June line-up is looking a bit bare. Nintendo looks set to rectify this at E3.

With games rivalling films in both production costs and profits, and titles like GTA IV smashing entertainment sales records, gaming is booming, but it’s not as big as it should be, says Atari founder Nolan Bushnell.
Bushnell points towards gaming’s relatively focused demographic and its increased complexity as factors that have stunted the growth of the hobby.
“I think the Wii by Nintendo is getting games that once again are fun for people who don’t want to make a career out of figuring out how to run a 47-button controller,” he told our friends over at Next-Gen.

Proving you don’t need to make more Star Wars movies to keep the merchandising vehicle moving, Titan Books has confirmed that The Force Unleashed will receive both an official novelisation and comic book adaptation in the next couple of months.
From August 22, Star Wars fans – or anyone, for that matter – will be able to buy a graphic novel or a hardback book chronicling the story of Darth Vader’s secret apprentice.
Hopefully, we’ll also get to see exactly how a skin-head has the power to cause a Star Destroyer to crash whilst Yoda can’t even walk across a room without using a walking stick.
